The position of landscaper carries the overall responsibility for maintaining the grounds or property using hand/power tools or equipment. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: Sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, and sprinkler installation. The expectation of this professional is compliance with company policies, successful completion of all assigned tasks, and development of strong relationships with all team members.

 

DUTIES

  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, and trimming & edging around flower beds, walks, and walls.
  • Mix, spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees using hand or automatic sprayers.
  • Mow and edge lawns using power mowers and edgers.
  • Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees & shrubs, and apply mulch for protection using gardening tools.
  • Knowledge and skill required to properly “stake” trees.
  • Decorate gardens with stones and plants.
  • Follow planned landscape designs to determine where lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers and foliage.
  • Haul or spread topsoil
  • Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems and starting them up in the spring.
  • Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges using shears, pruners or chain saws.
  • Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
  • Trim and clean flower beds.
  • Advise customers on plant selection and care.
  • Install drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, and planters.
  • Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other grounds features.
  • Shovel snow from walks, driveways and parking lots, and spread snow melt in those areas.
  • Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge & brush trimmers, and axes.

The position of spray technician carries the overall responsibility for maintaining the contractual obligations in regard to herbicide, pesticide, and fertilization management. Related duties include ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel assigned to chemical use, and strict adherence to all federal, state and local laws & regulations. The expectation of this professional is compliance with company policies, successful completion of all assigned tasks, and development of strong relationships with all team members.

 

DUTIES

  • Treat specific insect, weed, turf, disease and nutritional deficiencies by application of appropriate product.
  • Maintain power spray equipment assigned to your area in a safe, clean, and mechanically sound condition at all times.
  • See that all field equipment complies with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain inventory of chemicals needed for scheduled work.
  • Complete spray work orders as per schedule
  • Discuss with supervisor what is to be done the following day.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemical usage according to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules & regulations
  • Use good judgement in application of chemical (exposure to public, weather conditions, and other environmental considerations).
  • Provide and maintain safe physical conditions for employees assigned to spray duties per OSHA standards.

The Lift/Bucket Operator position is a support and technician level job that entails close observance of all safety issues involved in Tree work as well as skills that support the work performed by the Tree Crew, allowing a smooth flow of productivity at the job-site. The crew lift/bucket operator will directly report to the crew foreman for day-to-day responsibilities for each assigned job. The expectation of this professional is compliance with company policies, successful completion of all assigned tasks, and development of strong relationships with all team members.

 

BACKGROUND

Individuals becoming lift/bucket operators have most likely worked in the industry in another capacity such as groundsman or climbers.

 

DUTIES

  • Assisting with tree pruning and removals
  • Hazard tree assessment & diagnosis
  • Cabling & bracing of trees
  • Assisting with trimming, clearing, chipping, and disposing of trees
  • Defining the staging area and safe zones on the jobsite and identifying the work area to protect the public from falling debris.
  • Select proper PPE to ensure safe, high quality service
  • Help ensure other crew members follow Company safety policies and procedures

The crew groundsman will directly report to the crew foreman for day-to-day responsibilities for each assigned job. The expectation of this professional is compliance with company policies, successful completion of all assigned tasks, and development of strong relationships with all team members.

 

DUTIES

  • Defining the staging area and safe zones on the jobsite and laying out the tools for the job.
  • Keeping tools in the staging area and safe zone.
  • Placing all necessary traffic signage in a visible location.
  • Filling equipment with fuel while being mindful of safe handling of fuels.
  • Knowledge of chain saw blade sharpening & maintenance
  • General knowledge of crane operations
  • Safety for all types of equipment used (Chipper, Stump Grinder, Chain Saw, loaders, etc.).
  • Knowledge of stump grinder and chipper maintenance
  • Lining up branches and piling appropriately for loading into the Chipper.
  • Strong knowledge of tying & specific uses of tree-industry knots
  • Knowledge of riggings used in tree work (i.e. rope brakes & speed lines)

  • Management and execution – Will manage all aspects of assigned jobs that can be complex in nature.
  • Client relationship management – Will nurture relationships with our clients and act as their advocate.
  • Management of people – Will manage a crew of staff to successfully execute and complete jobs in a timely manner.
  • Planning – Will lead the daily planning efforts necessary to ensure manpower and materials are organized to execute jobs in accordance with assigned deadlines.

 

DUTIES

  • Actively participate in available training and development sessions/workshops and seek out and participate in additional industry related training opportunities.
